US stocks edge higher on hopes of US-China trade resolution

Stocks were moving higher on Wall Street Monday as investors held out new hope for progress in U.S.-China trade frictions. Health care companies, retailers and technology stocks drove the gains as the market overcame a midmorning wobble. Even so, the benchmark S&P 500 index was on track to end a volatile year with its worst showing in a decade.

KEEPING SCORE: The S&P 500 index rose 15 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,501 as of 12:45 p.m.
